To maintain a secure and spam-free messaging experience, WhatsApp has strict guidelines for approving template messages. Following their recommended best practices increases the chances of your templates getting approved quickly. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in template rejection by Meta (WhatsApp's parent company).

Reasons for Template Rejection

  • Unclear or ambiguous template purpose, such as "Hi, {{1}} {{2}} I'm Thankful."
  • Missing sequential ordering of placeholder variables (e.g., {{1}}, {{2}}, {{4}} present but {{3}} missing)
  • Placing placeholder variables too close together, like {{1}}{{2}}
  • Not providing a sample for templates with media headers (video, image, document)
  • Content too similar to existing approved templates
  • Placeholder variables beginning or ending the template body
  • Using newline characters (\n) in the template body
  • Messages containing threats of prosecution, abuse, or threatening language
  • Using emojis, asterisks, formatting markup, or newline characters in the footer
  • Using emojis, newline characters, or formatting in the text header

By understanding and avoiding these common pitfalls, you can craft WhatsApp template messages that meet Meta's approval criteria. Clear, well-structured templates free of ambiguity, threats, and restricted characters/formatting have a higher likelihood of being swiftly approved. This enables you to leverage WhatsApp's powerful messaging capabilities compliantly while delivering a positive user experience.
